Ice Climbing

(December - March) The frozen waterfalls of the Alps offer fantastic reliable ice climbing to suit all abilities. You could be climbing anything from single pitch climbs minutes from the road to multi pitch routes a bit further a field away from the crowds. I can offer coaching on technique, placing protection and guiding to maximise your ice climbing.

Chamonix is a great base for the ice falls near the Argentiere glacier or just over the border into Switzerland at Trient.

The idyllic Italian village of Cogne in the Aosta valley is the ideal venue with something to meet everyone's aspirations.

Further south in the Ecrins in France is the ice climbing mecca of La Grave and the neighbouring venues of Alpe d'Huez , Vallon du Diable and Argentiere la Besse.

For an adventure further afield there is the Canadian Rockies which is the world's premiere venue for frozen waterfalls, with consistently cold temperatures offering the most reliable conditions anywhere in the world. Routes like the famous Weeping wall or Polar Circus are under 10 minutes from the car!

Ratios for ice climbing are 1:1 or 1:2
