Ski Touring

(December - May) Ski touring is perhaps the most exhilarating way to enjoy the mountains in winter. Combining the skills of off piste skiing with mountaineering opens up a vast area of terrain inaccessible on foot.

I can offer guiding on fantastic day tours in and around the Chamonix Valley. With areas such as the Aiguilles Rouges, Les Contamines and many more over the borders into Switzerland and Italy there is plenty of scope for variety.

Multi day hut to hut tours are best done between March and May, when the huts are open and the days longer & warmer. The most famous of these is the Chamonix to Zermatt Haute Route taking seven days traversing this stunning area of the Alps, and staying in mountain refuges en route.

Also on offer are tours in the Gran Paradiso (Italy), the Vanoise (France), the Bernese Oberland (Switzerland) and the Monte Rosa Italian high level route.

For those of you who have good experience of off piste skiing, I can give you coaching and guiding at an introductory level for ski touring, so you can enjoy the off-piste experience away from the crowds.

The best ratios for most objectives are up to 1:6, but for more technical peaks a lower ratio is safer and more efficient.
